The people of the DREAM Lab
Haohan Wang
Assistant Professor, School of Information Sciences, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
Haohan Wang works on AI methods for scientific discovery with the DREAM Lab: agentic AI systems that automate complex genomic data analysis, computational methods that recover gene regulatory structure from spatial and single-cell transcriptomics and explain the genetic basis of complex diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, and techniques that make large language models robust and secure against jailbreaks and prompt injection.
He is an affiliated faculty member of the Siebel School of Computing and Data Science, the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology, the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Institute, and the National Center for Supercomputing Applications. He received his Ph.D. (2021) and M.S. (2015) from the Language Technologies Institute at Carnegie Mellon University and was a postdoctoral researcher in CMU's Machine Learning Department before joining Illinois in 2022. In 2019 the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard named him one of the Next Generation in Biomedicine.
